What to Do When Your Child Has a Dental Emergency San Antonio, TX

Dental emergencies can be scary, especially if you’re not sure what to do. But don’t worry, we’re here to help. In this blog post, we’ll give you some tips on how to handle common dental emergencies so you can keep your cool and get your child the help they need.

What is a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency is any situation that requires immediate dental care in order to prevent further damage to the teeth or gums. Common dental emergencies include cracked or chipped teeth, knocked-out teeth, objects caught between the teeth, and bleeding gums. According to the American Dental Association, over 5 million teeth are knocked out each year, so call Harlandalte Dental if any dental emergency occurs.

What to do if your Child has a Dental Emergency

If your child has a dental emergency, the first thing you should do is stay calm. This can be difficult, but it’s important to remain calm so you can think clearly and take action. Once calmed, assess the situation and see if there is anything you can do to mitigate the damage. For example, if your child has a cracked tooth, see if there is anything you can do to reduce the size of the crack (such as using dental floss to remove food particles).

If there is nothing you can do to mitigate the damage, then it’s time to call Harlandale Dental. If it’s during normal business hours, then schedule an appointment for your child at our office in San Antonio as soon as possible. However, if it’s after hours or on the weekend, then call an after-hours dental clinic or go to the nearest emergency room. Be sure to describe the situation to the best of your ability so they can be prepared when you arrive.

Not all dental emergencies are injuries. Kids can have sudden tooth pain or oral abnormalities that require urgent dental care. Our dental team will do our best to see dental emergencies on the same day, if possible. We can reassure your child and make them feel comfortable while they receive treatment to repair, save or remove a tooth that is damaged. If your child needs emergency dental care in the San Antonio area, call us first at Harlandale Kids Dental. We accept most dental insurance plans at our office and have payment options available to cover unexpected dental costs.
